About Standard Galactic
The Standard Galactic Alphabet (SGA) is the mysterious script floating across the Minecraft enchanting table. It was created by Tommy Refenes for the 1993 game Commander Keen, where it scrawled alien signage across Mars, decades later, Mojang borrowed it to give enchantments their arcane shimmer.
Each SGA symbol substitutes one English letter, which makes it a true cipher: anything written in it can be read back. Type below to convert English into enchanting table glyphs instantly, or paste SGA text to decode what that mysterious book actually says.
- First appeared in Commander Keen (1993), long before Minecraft.
- The enchanting table text is real SGA, it spells random words like “embiggen” and “galvanize”.
- It is a one-to-one substitution cipher, so it is fully reversible.
- Krunes uses the Unicode rendering popularised by the Minecraft community, so you can copy and paste it anywhere.
