About Aurebesh
Aurebesh is the writing system of Galactic Basic, the script glowing on control panels, bounty pucks and cantina signs across the entire Star Wars galaxy. Its name comes from its first two letters, Aurek and Besh, just as “alphabet” comes from alpha and beta.
Designed by Stephen Crane for West End Games in 1993, Aurebesh maps neatly to the English alphabet: every letter has a named Aurebesh counterpart. Type below and watch your words become datapad-ready, then hover any glyph to reveal the letter beneath.
- Every letter has a name: Aurek, Besh, Cresh, Dorn, Esk… all 26 are shown in the chart below.
- Aurebesh first appeared on screens in Return of the Jedi (1983) and was formalised in 1993.
- The Mandalorian, Andor and the games Jedi: Fallen Order and The Old Republic are full of hidden Aurebesh jokes.
- Krunes renders Aurebesh as crisp vector glyphs, download your phrase as a PNG for wallpapers or tattoos.
