About Elder Futhark
The Elder Futhark is the oldest known runic alphabet, carved into stone, bone and steel across Scandinavia from roughly 150 to 800 AD. Its 24 runes were more than letters, each carried a name and a meaning, from Fehu (cattle, wealth) to Othala (heritage).
These are the runes you see throughout God of War, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Vikings and countless fantasy worlds. Krunes transliterates modern English into authentic Unicode runes you can copy anywhere, and reads them back just as easily.
- “Futhark” spells the first six runes: ᚠ ᚢ ᚦ ᚨ ᚱ ᚲ, F, U, Th, A, R, K.
- Every rune had a meaning; ᛊ Sowilo is “sun”, ᛏ Tiwaz is the god Týr.
- Krunes outputs genuine Unicode runes, so they paste into Discord, Instagram bios and game names.
- English letters without a direct rune (like Q and X) use the scholarly convention of rune pairs.
